Rice is mainly composed of sugars (oligo- and polysaccharides) and proteins (and free amino acids), acting in both methods of moisturization of the skin and may be involved in the NMF.

The extract of Oryza sativa brings hydrophilic compounds (as oligosaccharides and amino acids) to bind water to the stratum corneum and blocks at the same time the loss of water from our skin (polysaccharides and proteins). Actually, starch presence must confer on rice extract film-forming and moisturizing properties: Starch contained in rice makes it possible to limit TEWL (TransEpidermal Water Loss). Starch can also play a hydrous flow regulating and moisturizing agent. Rice also contains sucrose that has interesting properties for fixing water. It has the property to maintain water in stratum corneum too.

Rice has a high content in glucids and amino acids, which confer to rice extract nutritive properties.

Then, by its high matter in starch, the rice extract can have astringent properties that can contribute to reduce sebum release form skin and hair scalp. Face complexion and hair looks like healthier.

Also, thanks to its content in B vitamins, rice favours cellular respiration and helps to prevent acne, by reducing sebum secretion and soothing activity.

Finally, rice extract can help to sooth skin irritations and inflammations.
