CURAZELIC®44 is a patent-pending, flowable solution of azelaic acid for easy incorporation in emulsions, gels or surfactant systems.

It contains 44% of azelaic acid pre-solubilized to help the mixing of the active ingredient and help improve bio-availability.

Cocamidopropyl Dimethylamine acts as an emollient and a solubilizer for azelaic acid to facilitate its addition to gels and emulsions.

Azelaic acid (AA) is a dicarboxylic acid found naturally. It is even produced by commensal fungi found on the skin (Malassesia). It can also be produced from oleic acid extracted from vegetable oils. Pure azelaic acid is a white crystalline solid.

Several studies have demonstrated the versatility of azelaic acid in helping address a broad array of skin disorders.

Azelaic acid has numerous pharmacological and cosmetic uses:

Its anti-inflammatory and anti-oxidant properties are thought to correlate with its efficacy in rosacea and acne.

Topical drugs containing 20% of dispersed azelaic acid are approved by the FDA for the treatment of acne vulgaris.

Topical drugs containing 15% of dispersed azelaic acid are approved by the FDA for the treatment rosacea.

In cosmetics applications, azelaic acid used at 10% or less is used to help reduce the appearance of skin blemishes, brighten skin tones and even out complexion.

Studies also suggest azelaic acid could benefit people suffering from early hair loss

Compatibility:

With cosmetic oils, waxes, and cationic and non-ionic emulsifiers.

With polyols and PEGs.

With cationic, amphoteric, and non-ionic surfactants.

With most water-soluble ingredients that are not pH sensitive.

With cationic and non-ionic thickeners.

With low concentrations of anionic surfactants and select thickeners at pH above 5.0.

Incompatibility:

With anionic surfactants and thickeners at pH below 4.5.

With most grades of carbomer and sodium polyacrylate.

As an acid in skin care formulations:

11.4% to 22.8% CURAZELIC® 44 for 5% to 10% active azelaic acid

pH range: 5.0 to 6.5
